Decision lies with players to play in IPL, says Australian High Commissioner

Cricket Australia is being kept abreast about India’s security situation ahead of the IPL but the final decision on participating in the Twenty20 event rests solely with the players, Australian High Commissioner to India Peter Varghese said on Monday.

He said the government was in “close contact” with Cricket Australia regarding security arrangements made for its players.

“It (to participate or not) is the decision of individual players to play in the IPL,” Varghese said.

Australian cricketers are jittery about travelling to India for the cash-awash league after the Pune bomb blast and the subsequent terror threat issued by al-Qaeda against foreign players.
