IPL 2013: Kings XI Punjab vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – Live IPL Score
Time is fast running out for Kings XI Punjab. One more defeat and they may not even have a mathematical chance of making it to the playoffs, rendering their last three games – including two at Dharamshala – inconsequential.
Their opponents on Saturday, Sunrisers Hyderabad, also have much at stake as they are fifth in the points table.
They are the dark horses and with a fully-fit Shikhar Dhawan leading the charge with the bat, they are fancying their chances of sneaking into the playoffs.
With both teams having a lot to play for, the battle at the PCA stadium on Saturday should be intense.
Temperatures have increased dramatically in the city and the previous game on Thursday afternoon took so much toll that the home team chose not to practice on match eve.
But it should be less taxing late in the evening and hopefully more spectators will also make it to the stadium.
The problem with KXIP is their heavy reliance on foreign recruits, the likes of David Hussey, David Miller or Shaun Marsh. The domestic players have just not been consistent.
Against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, they had begun well with Marsh giving them as excellent platform. But the batting crumbled in the latter half and they fell almost 20 runs short of the desired total.
The team has done well chasing at home. In two matches it was the South African sensation David Miller who led the charge. But once he failed to get going against RR, the rest of the batting crumbled.
Similarly, SRH’s batting too has been an enigma. They have looked a force only after the return of Dhawan. Kumar Sangakkara too is slowly getting into the groove. Now is the time for him to hit the straps and lead the side from the front.
On a fast, bouncy pitch where stroke-players like Dhawan and Miller can thrive, it will be the performance of the bowlers that will hold the key.
With Dale Steyn, Darren Sammy, Ishant Sharma and young Karan Sharma bowling well in tandem, SRH have the edge, especially with their domestic batters doing much better than the KXIP local lads.
