Australian High Commissioner to India John McCarthy said the Indian Premier League coinciding with the Lok Sabha election is not much of a worry for the Aussie cricketers who would take part in the second edition of the Twenty20 tournament.
Instead, it’s incidents like the terror strikes in Mumbai and the attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore which are of more concern, he said.
“Elections do bring out boisterous elements but the issue more of concern will be events that happened in Mumbai and Pakistan,” McCarthy said when asked about if the poll would have influence the Australian cricketers’ decision to play in the sub-continent.
“Security concerns, if any, will have other reasons. IPL coinciding with elections here will not have a major affect, he said.
Making it clear that Cricket Australia had not sought the high commission seeking opinion on the security arrangements for the players, he said his office would advise them about the situation here.
