IPL responsible for security of players, says Lalit Modi

The Indian Premier League will take full responsibility for players’ safety through a centrally managed security set-up for the second edition of the Twenty20 league, IPL chairman Lalit Modi said on Tuesday in a bid to assure international players that adequate measures were being taken to make the tournament incident-free.

The league’s security budget is being increased 10-fold, he added.

Modi, however, couldn’t announce the schedule due to the Centre’s insistence on taking all venue states on board before finalizing dates and venues for matches.

The Union home ministry, on its part, has sent a “reminder” to states which have so far not responded to its queries on whether they would be in a position to provide adequate security for the matches.
