A day after Kolkata protested against John Buchanan as Sourav Ganguly was dethroned from Kolkata Knight Riders’ captaincy, the KKR manager has hit back saying that Dada was aware of the 4-captain formula.
The former Aussie coach rubbished Ganguly’s claims of not being aware of the decision and added that during the last season the Knight Riders team management had a long discussion about appointing rotating captains to groom leaders.
He said, “I had discussed about the plans with Sourav after the first IPL season got over. Shah Rukh Khan has given me a freehand in cricketing matters.”
While speaking to a Kolkata Daily, Anandbazaar Patrika, Buchanan also stated that team owner Shah Rukh Khan has given him a free hand to call the shots in cricketing matters.
The angry Aussie also lashed out at senior Indian players mentioning that Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman have reached the end of their careers and Twenty20 cricket is game for youngsters.
“Sourav, Dravid and Laxman have reached twilight. Twenty20 needs sunrise with new faces,” added Buchanan.
On March 25, Sourav Ganguly ceased to be the only skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders with the team deciding to try out multiple captaincy in the second season of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament starting April 18 in South Africa.
KKR coach John Buchanan said captaincy would be shared by Ganguly, West Indian Chris Gayle, New Zealand’s explosive opener Brendon McCullum and Australian Brad Hodge.
