The one-month transfer window of the IPL, an idea first conceived from the European soccer leagues, came to an end on Thursday with just Team Mumbai swapping two players with Team Bangalore and Team Delhi.
The rest of the window saw absolutely no action as none of the teams was willing to spend. On the contrary, most of the eight franchisees only drew a list of players as buying simply did not feature in their plans.
Mumbai Indians decided to exchange Robin Uthappa and Ashish Nehra with Zaheer Khan and Shikhar Dhawan in the only player transfers registered this year.
Uthappa and Nehra, both Mumbai players in the previous season, will now feature in the Bangalore and Delhi teams while Zaheer and Dhawan will don Mumbai colours.
The Zaheer-Uthappa exchange particularly took place because the players too had shown personal interest in the move.
It is not over yet as the franchisees will get another opportunity to rope in new players when the IPL auction for the second season takes place on February 6.
