Australia vice-captain Michael Clarke said he would consult girlfriend Lara Bingle and his family before deciding whether to play in this year’s Indian Premier League or pass up the opportunity as he did in the inaugural edition last year.
“I haven’t said yes, but over the next few days I’m going to sit with Lara and my family and discuss it,” he said.
“I need to let them know soon because the auction’s taking place soon and they need to know if I’ll be involved.”
However, if Clarke ultimately decides to play, it would be only for a short period.
“We go from South Africa to Pakistan for five One-dayers and I think there’s a window of only a few weeks where we can play IPL before going to England for the Twenty20 World Cup,” Clarke was quoted as saying in The Sun-Herald.
“It could be a good thing to get some Twenty20 under your belt before the World Cup. Each player has to weigh up whether to have that time off to freshen up or to keep playing. The year after that we can play for the whole time. I’ll sit with Lara and see what she thinks and we’ll come up with a decision,” he said.
