The revised Indian Premier League schedule is likely to be announced either on Monday evening or on Tuesday. According to BCCI sources, the IPL is supposed to submit the dates and new venues to the home ministry on Monday morning and will possibly have to wait till it gets a green signal from the government.
Team owners, expectedly, are finally heaving a sigh of relief. ‘‘We were very tense when the home minister expressed concerns over the IPL schedule. But Lalit Modi and his team have done a good job at a trying time by coming up with the names of additional venues,’’ a team official said. Modi had suggested the names of six new venues in the wake of security concerns after the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government has requested IPL to bring back the inaugural ceremony to the Pink City and assured every co-operation including adequate security arrangement for the matches scheduled in Jaipur. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot on Sunday called a top level meeting to review the security situation in this context, according to agencies.
Gehlot has even written a letter to ICC vice president Sharad Pawar and cricket board (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar to pave the way for holding all seven matches of defending champions Rajasthan Royals team in the state.
