IPL 2011: Rajasthan Royals crush Kochi Tuskers Kerala by 8 wickets

Shane Watson’s 40-ball 49 and Rahul Dravid’s 37-ball 44 enabled Rajasthan Royals to inflict a crushing eight-wicket defeat on Kochi Tuskers Kerala in their IPL match at Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur on Sunday.

Royals chased down the 110-run victory target in 14.1 overs with Dravid and Watson putting up an opening stand of 71 runs.

Dravid was run out after hitting a six and 4 fours in his knock.

Watson hit 2 sixes and 4 fours in his knock before he was clean bowled by Ravindra Jadeja.

Earlier, Shane Warne and Siddharth Trivedi took 3 wickets each as Rajasthan Royals bundled out Kochi Tuskers Kerala for 109 runs.

The slide started when Warne broke the 48-run partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Parthiv Patel when he dismissed the former by taking a catch off his own bowling.

On the next ball, Patel tried to reverse sweep but was stumped by Harendra Yagnik.

Thisara Perera denied Warne a hat-trick but on the first ball of the next over, Siddharth Trivedi had Raiphi Gomez caught by Shane Watson at long-on and on the last ball of the same over, Stuart Binny took a good diving catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss Perera.

In the next over, Amit Singh had R Vinay Kumar caught by Watson at short third man as Kochi lost 5 wickets in 15 balls to be placed at 98/8.

Trivedi took his third wicket when he had Kedar Jadhav caught behind by Dishant Harendra Yagnik to reduce Kochi to 108/9.

The Kochi innings ended when RP Singh was run out on the last ball.

Earlier, Brad Hodge edged a Shane Warne delivery onto his stumps as Kochi Tuskers Kerala lost their third wicket in the eighth over.

This was after Mahela Jayawardene edged a Johan Botha delivery onto his stumps after Rahul Dravid ran out VVS Laxman with a direct hit.

Kochi lost their first wicket in the fourth over when Jayawardene edged a Shane Watson delivery behind the stumps and called Laxman for a quick single. Dravid came running in from the slips and his under-arm throw caught Laxman well short of the crease.

In the next over, Jayawardene looked to flick a Botha delivery but the ball hit his thigh pad and then rolled on to hit the stumps.

Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne won the toss and chose to bowl.

Rajasthan have replaced Shaun Tait and Abhishek Raut with Johan Botha and Ajinkya Rahane.

Kochi have brought in VVS Laxman and Thisara Perera and left out the injured Brendon McCullum and Ramesh Powar.
